Hold on to your honkers: Dread Central is reporting that there’s a LAKE DEAD 2 in the works! Gasp! What the hell is LAKE DEAD?! (Besides a movie with an incredibly chilling and potent title.) Well, it’s one of After Dark’s “Eight Films to Die For” and apparently just another entry into the “inbred family f*cks and kills the morons who stumble upon their land” subgenre. It also seems to be, according to Dread’s Foywonder, a movie so bad that the thought of a sequel is literally unbelievable… But how many shitty horror movies have become namebrands just based on the very fact that their small excuses for plots are sequel/franchise ready? The WISHMASTER series, anyone?
Now, if Mr. Foywonder is to be believed, LAKE DEAD is retchid, and not nearly deserving of the already dubious honor of being selected to After Dark’s Horrorfest (to be fair, I haven’t seen many of them, although MULBERRY STREET is really quite good). That didn’t stop a sequel from being prepped and shopped around at last month’s American Film Market. The plot is as follows (spoiler warning re: the first LAKE DEAD if you really care)
“The Lake Dead property has been sold to a church group who plans to use it for retreats. What they don’t know is that Kane, the monstrous inbreed and the only survivor of the previous bloodbath, still inhabits the land. A group of troubled teens come up on the first retreat, guided by a pastor secretly troubled by his own faltering faith. It doesn’t take long before blood thirsty Kane goes on a much awaited killing spree.”
