Jane’s Country rolls

Variety has an article today reporting that shooting has begun on the Thomas Jane-directed 3-D thriller DARK COUNTRY, which will star Jane, Lauren German, and Ron Perlman. To quote the article, it’s being shot in 3-D high definition, as well as 2-D high-def. It appears the film will be able to play in either format.

The existence of this project isn’t exactly “breaking news” – I talked to Steve Niles (Jane’s producing partner; both shown above) about it months ago, and he was really excited about exploring 3-D outside of the obvious big CGI/event pictures (read our chat HERE – we don’t really hit upon it until the end of the interview). The film’s plot is sort’ve film noir/western/horror: A couple accidentally hits a man with their car while on their honeymoon, then decide it’s a good idea to throw the guy in the backseat… to paraphrase Niles, “He wakes up Mad.”

The screenplay was written by Tab Murphy, who it turns out has toiled away on a few of Diney’s traditionally animated films for the past decade. Let’s hope working there has led to years of pent up rage that has manifested itself into a truly disturbed screenplay.
