We got word via press release that there’s a new Charlie Manson film being prepared, and we’ve got the poster to prove it! While the film doesn’t yet have a director attached, its screenplay is currently in the rewrite stage (if that’s true, I hope it’s not a guild member at work) and it looks to begin shooting in a couple months.
“The Devil Exists” explores sociological questions behind the Manson family, their crimes and various theories on why the crimes were committed. With real lost footage of the family coupled with an in depth look at the 1920’s iconic figure, “The Devil Exists” stands to be one of the more horrifying films of 2008.
Could be interesting, although personally I’m wondering how much more can be said about the monster and his followers. Yes it’s a fascinating subject, but with two “Helter Skelter” movies (not to mention the book) and Jim van Bebber’s notorious THE MANSON FAMILY being so intricate and exhaustive, I would think we’ve got a pretty good idea who this guy was. That said, a good movie is a good movie, so here’s hoping the company behind this production, MJD Films, makes one. The targeted release date is Halloween of ’08.
