Excl: Day/Dead update

First off, I must give credit to Fangoria for alerting me to the fact that Steve Miner’s DAY OF THE DEAD remake will be getting a 500 theater release via First Look Pictures. The info was gathered at AFM (where practically every piece of news comes from nowadays), although no release date was given… With that, I took it upon myself to write the film’s scribe, Jeffrey Reddick (above, with a pal), and ask him what he thought about the update. Not surprisingly, he had only just heard as well (he IS only the screenwriter after all).

I was surprised when I checked my phone and had several messages about the 500 screen release. I haven’t been able to confirm it, but I talked to a colleague at First Look who hadn’t heard anything about it. I sent her the link to Fangoria.com and she said she’d find out what’s going on. I hope it happens for sure.

I then asked if the reshoots he first told me about here were going to be in the final product… (–beware of a a vague spoiler–) They’ll be showing the version without the reshoots. The reshoots were just to add some practical zombie FXs…and an alternate ending, where a character who dies, isn’t dead. But the test scores were higher for the original version, so the alternate will be on the dvd.

Hopefully I’ll have a bit more info coming from Jeffrey in the coming days, specifically pertaining to DAY OF THE DEAD’S release.
