When I interviewed BLACK SHEEP director Jonathan King in June, he mentioned a project called UNDER THE MOUNTAIN he was trying to get off the ground. Well, seems like it’s “lift off,” because Bloody Disgusting is reporting that it’s officially King’s next film – and they even scored some art courtesy of ThinkFilm!
King described it to me as a “scary sci-fi adventure, not for kids, but for teens” – and the plot description laid out seems to confirm that. Here ya go: While on school summer holidays in Auckland, a pair of twins named rachel and Theo were contacted by a man named Mr. Jones, who had met them briefly eight years earlier. This time, Mr. Jones revealed his true identity and mission. He was an alien, sent from another world to recruit the twins in a battle against another race of aliens. These latter creatures were a family of slimy, slug-like beasts who could take on human form. Led by the evil Mr. Wilberforce, the green monsters were now bent on destroying Earth and only the twins’ emerging psychic abilities could turn them back.
Since I thought King was fairly influenced by early Peter Jackson with BLACK SHEEP, it seems logical that he’s now going the epic-fantasy route. He was a super-nice fella, very cheerful and entertaining, so I wish him all the best.
Check out Bloody Disgusting for another cool piece of concept art.
