I had a chance to talk with Alexandre Aja earlier today – you know him as the wild Frenchman responsible for HIGH TENSION and THE HILLS HAVE EYES. And while we were mostly discussing P2, the thriller he produced and co-wrote (it hits theaters Nov. 9), I asked him for a quick update on his PIRANHA remake. And a quick response I got!
“We’re writing the script, I’m very excited. It’s completely different – it’s kind’ve the “ultimate roller coaster movie,” you know? We want to do something really entertaining and “popcorny” and really fun, really gory. Completely different from the spirit of survival that we explored with THE HILLS HAVE EYES or P2 or HIGH TENSION.”
So nothing there that’s going to break the ground, but we know he’s going for a different tone than the uber-seriousness of his previous flicks.
When I asked about a novel Franck Khalfoun told me he’s adapting for him (according to Franck, a “comedy”), Aja zipped up, saying it was too premature to talk about the project – but reassuring me that their working relationship is great – a “pleasure cruise” to be exact.
The entire interview with Aja about P2 and the film he’s currently making, MIRRORS, will hit the site next week!
