THE DESCENT was one of last year’s coolest, eeriest, most cave-dwellingist horror flicks, and it got my psyched to see what director Neil Marshall will be up to next.
What’s next happens to be DOOMSDAY – which sounds a touch like it could be called 28 MONTHS LATER – and we’ve got a couple new photos to show you. Granted, one is of Marshall doing what he does best (looking befuddled), but the other is of hot-stuff Rhona Mitra doing what SHE does best: tangling with a female wrestler! (Man, I make weird assumptions about people…)
Anyhow, also starring Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell, DOOMSDAY goes something like this:
Authorities brutally quarantine a country as it succumbs to fear and chaos when a virus strikes. The literal walling-off works for three decades – until the dreaded Reaper virus violently resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists, captained by Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra), is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Shut off from the rest of the world, the unit must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.

(note: in actuality the freak Mitra is struggling with is referred to as a “marauder” in the press notes.)
