Disney’s Ascent

The day Walt Disney Pictures makes a certifiable horror movie is likely the day director Uwe Boll stops making shitty movies- it just ain’t never gonna happen. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, it sure as shite looks like they’re going to try!

Writers Andrew Cosby and Johanna Stokes have been picked up to rewrite Disney’s FIRST ASCENT, which is being described as a supernatural action adventure that revolves around a group of climbers who, while attempting to ascend a mountain in Bhutan, are attacked by an unseen beast.

With Disney banking on movies based on their rides, propelled by the success of POTC trilogy, it sounds like this is based on yet another ride… possibly The Matterhorn. I realize that they haven’t said that they’re related, but that ride at Disneyland is pretty flippin’ creepy… especially when you’re a kid. Enjoying a nice little coaster ride then BAM! a giant white monster with glowing red eyes is in your face with teeth sharp and claws raised. Make that terror into a movie, and Disney may just have a certifiable horror flick in their hands after all.

Of course, that’s just speculation by yours truly, and at this point, it’s really unclear if this would even be considered alongside a monster movie at all; however, words like ‘supernatural’ and ‘beast’ are making lean in that direction. Stick around for more on FIRST ASCENT as we hear it!
