As lame as this may seem now, the Goosebumps
novel series which was written by R. L. Stine may have helped foster my love for
horror more than any other single entity. I can still remember taking a note
home from school with my teacher asking my parents to have me to read something more
wholesome for my next book report because he felt that all these ‘horror novels’
were not helping my fine Catholic upbringing. (Like a story about a giant
hamster or some crazy lawn gnomes is going to effect my opinions on Jesus!)
While the novel series seems to have dwindled in
popularity, another generation may still have a shot at getting into the
Goosebumps franchise with a possible film in the making.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter 20th Century Fox scooped
up the rights to the novel series at the same time as grabbing the rights to
Stine’s other, ‘less scary’ series Rotten School.
No word yet on what the Goosebumps film will
entail (hopefully several stories tied into a single film), but may I suggest
something in the neighborhood of THE HAUNTED MASK? Also I know I’m not
the only one who read this series. Spit some bullets below and let’s hear which
