Although we and everybody else told you the other day that Tobe Hooper’s next flick would be TEQUILA JOE, an article today reveals that may not be the case.
Hooper, according to Shock Till You Drop, is siccing on some hapless youngsters the craziest villains this side of the Leatherface clan: Al Qaeda!
Here’s the plot to what is apparently his next film, TRAINING GROUND, written by Andy (brother of Peter) Briggs:
Eight backpackers traveling abroad along Silk Road lose their mode of transportation via an avalanche. Seeking a nearby town they stumble upon a desolate Al Qaeda training camp and discover plans for the destruction of several U.S. cities, unbeknownst to them Los Angeles has already suffered a dirty bomb attack. They make off with the plans and are subsequently hunted down by the Al Qaeda members eager to get their information back.
Jeepers! Not sure if it turns into a HILLS HAVE EYES-style freakout, or if Hooper will keep the tone straightforward and serious, but either way I think it’s cool that he’s doing something a tad out of the ordinary for him – especially something likely to be controversial and put the man back on the map. (Although any flick about Al Qaeda – who talk evil shit, wear masks, and chop off heads – can be considered “horror,” so maybe it’s not a huge leap after all.)
