Another person is going to be strapping on a corsage and a fancy dress to appear in the remake of PROM NIGHT. Jana Kramer has joined the cast of the film; this according to Kramer’s Myspace page, which featured an accompanying production photo (below). Kramer joins the cast of Brittany Snow, Dana Davis, Jessica Stroup, Scott Porter, Collins Pinnie, Kelly Blatz, Idris Elba and Johnathon Schaech in the Sony Pictures remake. The film is currently shooting in the Los Angeles area, but no release date has been announced.
The original 1980 version of PROM NIGHT featured the former Ms. Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis as the unfortunate teenie to get terrorized by a masked psycho looking for revenge on a high school prom night. This update isn’t much different, and if it was it would probably be pretty lame. But the synopsis of the remake reads like this: “Donna’s senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible…the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive their Prom Night.”
Same story or not, it’s hard to get excited for this remake, maybe more so than others because it’s going to be PG-13. I don’t know, I could be wrong but it just seems wrong to be remaking a classic slasher film in a PG-13 rating. But that’s just me.
