Many of us have been waiting none-too-patiently for the new Dario Argento film, especially considering that it’s the concluding entry in the “Mothers” trilogy, which began with SUSPERIA, and continued with INFERNO. Now 17 years later, THE MOTHER OF TEARS is nearly upon us and we’re getting our first look courtesy of Dark Dreams (a fairly extensive Argento site that is certainly worth looking through).

I’m digging the look of these stills. There’s something very old-school about them, I don’t know whether its their grainy exposure or just the way the ladies are dolled up (or is it down?)
In her fourth team-up with her pop, Asia Argento will play Sarah, an American art student who unwittingly unleashes a plague of witches in Rome by opening an ancient urn (doncha hate it when that happens?). As a scourge of suicides plague the city and witches from all over the world converge on Rome to pay homage, Sarah must use all her own psychic powers to stop the “Mother of Tears” before her evil conquers the world.
No release date yet in the states for THE MOTHER OF TEARS, but it’s got an October 31 date set in Dario’s homeland, Italy. Would love to think we’re going to get to see it around the same time, because Halloween and Dario Argento go together like Asia Argento and being creepily filmed in the nude by her dad…
