Last week I got a couple chances to pimp a movie that I think looks very promising indeed, Michael Dougherty’s TRICK ‘R TREAT. Getting another chance to do it this week, by leading you toward Dread Central, where Johnny Butane – presumably able to hypnotize people into doing whatever he wants them to – got himself on the set of the Vancouver-based flick and interviewed a number of the players involved.
The essence of the movie – four interwoven horror tales on Halloween night – is best explained by producer Alex Garcia: “One of the stories is very much about the Halloween of your childhood, dealing with your parents, not being old enough to trick or treat necessarily. Another is the Halloween of adolescence where you’re probably too old to be trick or treating but you’re out anyway; you may get into trouble, you may not. The next is the Halloween of your 20s and 30s when it’s very much about sex, then we get into the Halloween of Mr. Kreeg (played by veteran Brian Cox), the old man who hates the holidays.”
My other favorite sound bite comes from the director himself, who says: “The film does have some lighter aspects with kids and all that, but I think we kill 14-15 kids in this, so it’s definitely not a PG-13 movie.”
How sweet is that? (FYI: I’m very against killing more than 15 kids in any given film, so don’t think me an evil prick)
