After Easter weekend’s GRINDHOUSE debacle, I thought for sure this weekend people would realize what a f*cking great movie experience it was, and be all over it, making it #1 in it’s second weekend of release. But that was a cross of over extended hopes and too much credit to North American audiences. Least to say GRINDHOUSE didn’t kick box office ass, more like the other way around, scoring just over $4M this past weekend, barely squeaking in to the 10th spot. Sad! Sad I say! It’s a f*cking crying shame is what it is!

However, all is not lost on the genre, as the newly-released teeny-bopper suspense/horror flick DISTURBIA killed the competition, bringing in a whopping $23M! For those counting at home, that’s STILL more moola than what GRINDHOUSE has brought in. Ouch! By the end of this year, Shia LaBeouf will be a house-hold name, as he’s also in this summer’s TRANSFORMERS, and next year’s INDIANA JONES 4. Who would have thought the sidekick in CONSTANTINE would amount to so much???

Check out the rest of the top 10 below. While it’s still good to see 300 still kicking ass all over the place, the fact that it did more business than GRINDHOUSE really bums me out. Come on, people! What the hell is wrong with you?? I mean, even THE REAPING scored more dough! Just when you thought sweet double-features were gonna make a comeback… GRINDHOUSE flops it big, and hammers the last few nails into the coffin. Let’s just hope there’s still enough interest in MACHETE for RR to complete it into a full length flick- even if it is straight to DVD.
