One of the coolest Ray Harryhausen stop-motion special-effects extravaganzas had to be CLASH OF THE TITANS. If it wasn’t the battling of giants or hordes of skeletons, it was the kick ass battle with that crazy bitch Medusa at the end that left that sweet taste of euphoria in my mouth. So it’s no surprise Hollywood is remaking the flick, and today they just scored a writer to bring it all together, for the second time around.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence Kasdan has been snagged to write the remake for Warner Bros.- the name rings to bells, but some of his work does: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Nice! Two classics right there, so all is not lost.
The original story revolved around Zeus’ son, Perseus, and his journey to save Princess Andromeda during which he must complete various tasks set out by Zeus, including capturing Pegasus and slaying Medusa. It was awesome back in 81′, and with today’s effects I’m sure it’d be awesome now- my only question would be why remake it??? Write something new that revolves around the same mystical creatures and characters- there’s plenty of source material out there- use it!
