For those of you who were wondering if Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were returning to complete the MUMMY trilogy, wait no more. News has just rolled in that Brendan Fraser will be returning for the third installment of the franchise, but unfortunately Rachel Weisz won’t be. According to Variety, Weisz has now officially dropped out of talks since she has too many other projects on the horizon.
As of now, Rob Cohen is set to direct and production will start this summer. Universal is aiming for a July 18th 2008 release date, although the official “green light” is pending due to a final rewrite of the script.

The third MUMMY will feature Jet Li as the villain, as the film will be set in China.
