Everyone’s favorite motel manager who just so happens to be a weird, voyeuristic killing mama’s boy, Norman Bates, is making a return, but this time in documentary format. The documentary would be focused on the legacy of the PSYCHO films, appropriately titled THE LEGACY OF PSYCHO. Shooting for the documentary has just begun courtesy of Icon of Fright Productions and producer Robert Galluzzo.
The independently produced documentary will chronicle the entire PSYCHO franchise, including the now super famous original done by Alfred Hitchcock. But the documentary will apparently focus more on the sequels and the impact of the films on the genre and pop culture.
THE PSYCHO LEGACY filmmaker, Robert Galluzo explains his reasoning for the project: ” I was inspired to start this documentary for a number of reasons. The main one being a lack of one. Like many current horror filmmakers out there now, I was at the ideal age when all the sequels came out, and there’s very little material out there documenting the stories behind the making of those Psycho sequels. I will cover the original movie, but there’s already so much out there about Hitchcock’s PSYCHO. I’m really interested in answering all the burning questions fans have had through out the years about the sequels. And I can confidently say that I’ve already uncovered never-before-heard stories from the filmmakers involved.
I’m doing this because I love these movies and it’s something I’d personally want to see. All the other famous horror franchises have gotten either box sets or the special edition treatment, and there’s no reason we shouldn’t be celebrating the PSYCHO movies as well. The sequels in particular are very underrated and often looked upon as footnotes to a masterpiece. It’s really time to examine ALL the films again and show their relevance. Everyone I’ve spoken to so far has shown such an affinity for PSYCHO and the prospect of a documentary about the series, so I can’t wait to share this with the fans."
A bevy of people have been put together to speak in the documentary, including: Mick Garris (director of PSYCHO IV), Tom Holland (writer of PSYCHO II and director of FRIGHT NIGHT and CHILD’S PLAY) , and whole bunch of actors involved in the franchise, as well as all out fans of the horror genre.
This looks to be an incredibly extensive look at the films and it’s exciting to see that it will be coming from a true fan, to the true fans. Go ahead and check out the official Myspace page for the film.
