Boyyyyy…
Most of y’all have a special place in your hearts for PHANTASM, I know you do. Hell, it’s (probably) the very first time you’ve ever seen a swift, silver ball skewer itself into a person’s cranium, and that counts for something where I come from… The idea of a remake is a tough one to grasp, not just from a purist’s standpoint, but from a practical one. It just isn’t one of those movies that seems remake-friendly (of course, we’d like to think that about a lot of our beloved originals).
But I suppose no PHANTASM fan is going to raise much hell about another sequel, this one being the fourth. iF Magazine has a little interview with Don Coscarelli, mastermind of the franchise, where he proclaims he’s got a PHANTASM 5 screenplay ready to go, and Anchor Bay just might be willing to put up the dough. First, he has to finish up the BUBBA HO-TEP sequel, BUBBA NOSFERATU AND THE CURSE OF THE SHE-VAMPIRES. Okay, I did not realize it was being called that. Um, best title ever?!
