Indy gets a lady!

The Hollywood Reporter announced earlier that no, an Indiana Jones movie with a 94-year-old star and written by David “give me millions of dollars for crap” Koepp has not been a fever dream, but a reality, further cemented today as the whip-carrying-one just got himself a galpal, Cate Blanchett. This news surprises just about everyone, as usually we’re hearing names attached to movies like this weeks, sometimes months, before it’s made “official.”
Frankly I don’t have a problem with this. I dig Mrs. Blanchett, who can do classy, sassy, and naughty, with equal flair. At least the news doesn’t send shivers down my spine the way Koepp’s involvement did, or the rumors about Shia Lebouf’s casting as a smart-alecky young side-kick for Dr. Jones.

I guess we’ll all find out on May 22, 2008. Next week will come the announcement that Steven Spielberg has done additional casting: a couple of german actors (as the sure-to-be-melted Nazis), some snakes (as the snakes that hilariously frighten an otherwise stoic Indy), and John Rhys-Davies (as the same bumbling goof he’s always playing).

Indy, ya lucky old dog ya…
