I’ve had a vision of the future. In this vision, we’re all a bunch of introverted hermits who live in self-imposed isolation, but would still like to get out a little, so we send robots out into the world and live vicariously through them. Okay, its not my vision, but the vision of Robert Vendetti’s graphic novel THE SURROGATE, which was acquired by Disney for Jonathon Mostow (TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES) to direct. Also returning from T3 are scribes Michael Ferris and John Brancato (I guess the folks at the Mouse House thought these guys did a bang-up job on the android front. I respectfully disagree).
Not surprisingly, another movie’s success led to the fast-tracking of this project, that movie being 300 (read Arrow’s review HERE). Producer David Hoberman commented: “This is a grounded sci-fi premise, but there are big effects, and it’s clear from ‘300’ that people want to see different kinds of things, and this falls into that category.” Can’t say I can argue with that, although the creative team assembled so far makes me skeptical.
Adorably enough, another of the flick’s producers is Elizabeth Banks, whom you might know from SPIDERMAN, SLiTHER, and THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN. She can produce my movie anyday, heh heh… (no really, I need someone to produce this awesome script I have sitting around)
