What do you do after your movie knocks the socks off of everyone at the box office, exceeding all expectations, and setting records for b.o. intake in March? If you’re 300 director Zack Snyder, you set your sights on directing the comic adaptation of THE WATCHMEN… for no less than $150 Million!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder (who has already rocked a test shot of what the Watchmen would look like above), has a vision for the film… which costs no less than $150M- while Warner Bros. only has about $100M to put into it. Hmmmm… what a dilemma! Apparently there are other filmmakers who are interested in the project, as Snyder is not officially on board yet. They include Darren Aronofsky among others, but again… nothing is set in stone, and most have been leaning towards Snyder after his vision of 300 went off without a hitch.
But a $150M??? Seems pretty high… hell, even $100M is up there, considering the lack of knowledge of THE WATCHMEN (vs other comic book characters) from the general public. Then again, little heard of Frank Miller’s 300 before it came out in theaters, and look at that! We’ll forget about the fact that 300’s budget was around $65M, because… well, it’s besides the point. I’m on team Snyder on this one, so it’ll be interesting to see if his wishes come true, or if the studio holds their ground.
