Variety is reporting an interesting project that just came through the door at Universal Pictures, one that involves a novel adaptation, classic Universal monsters, and Napoleon Dynamite. Wait- what? Napoleon Dynamite???
You got that right! Universal just picked up the rights to THREE MEN SEEKING MONSTERS: SIX WEEKS IN PURSUIT OF WEREWOLVES, LAKE MONSTERS, GIANT CATS, GHOSTLY DEVIL DOGS AND APE-MEN, a novel by Nick Redfern. I can’t really tell if the book is a light-hearted comedy/ satire or hardcore horror, but considering Redfern’s other books have to deal with UFO conspiracy’s and Government cover-ups, it hardly sounds like a comedy to me. Here’s a quick synopsis: three guys who’ve separately chased monsters and UFOs unite for one last hurrah, taking one last caravan to every place in the British countryside where monsters have allegedly been spotted.
Universal is hoping to sign Jon Heder, that goofy looking dude who played NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, in the lead role. Now don’t get me wrong, the guy was f*cking funny as shit in DYNAMITE, but every movie since they he’s the same Napoleon character with a different hairstyle. More of a one-hit wonder I think, yet he keeps landing all these movie deals… seriously, the guy just can’t act!
As Heder is in talks to star, nothing is in place as of yet, so it could go an entirely different direction… let’s hope that’s the case. Stick around more updates on THREE MEN SEEKING MONSTERS as we hear it!
