Generally speaking, movies made for kids with that slight ‘horror’ element to them end up sucking balls like no other. They’re made for kids, so they’re not scary, and come off being more goofy than what they’re worth. Sometimes it comes through (like last summer’s MONSTER HOUSE- what a great movie!), but it’s a usual rule of thumb to stay away.
That said 20th Century Fox just picked up the children’s novel THE DEVIL YOU KNOW to be adapted for the big screen. Originally written by Nathan Hale, DEVIL is based around the Fell family and the little devil that lives in their house. The Fells grow impatient with the demon, who does all sorts of bad things. When the prim and proper Ms. Phisto mysteriously appears and offers to remove the little devil and take his place, the Fells wind up with more than they bargained for.
Can’t you just feel the excitement and anticipation this film is already building? Yeah. Me either. While I haven’t read the book, I’m sure it’s very well done, but like I stated earlier, children horror movies mean disaster for the true genre fan.
Steve Bencich and Ron Friedman are set to bring it to life in this ‘live action’ flick. I put those in quotes, because the dudes are also responsible for animated features such as CHICKEN LITTLE and BROTHER BEAR. Stick around for more info on THE DEVIL YOU KNOW as we hear it…!
I for those looking for something a little more adult with all this kid talk, I present thee this… Enjoy!
