For those who are zombie fans, prepare to get the mother of all boners: Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B has just picked up the film rights to Max (son of Mel) Brooks’ zombie epic WORLD WAR Z: AN ORAL HISTORY OF THE ZOMBIE WAR, with Paramount Pictures!
Announced at this past weekend’s New York Comic-Con, J. Michael Straczynski (creator of TV’s Babylon 5 ) mentioned to folks that he’s currently writing the screenplay adaptation as we speak. Here’s what he had to say: “I’m adapting that for Paramount. For Brad Pitt potentially — we’ll see what happens. He might be the star in it. So things are going very well for a TV guy.”
Pitt in a zombie epic? Now that would make my year! Say what you will, the guy can f*cking act with the lot of him, and everything he touches has that ‘cool’ edge that many get-rich-quick zombie films of late just seem to be lacking. Straczynski has already acknowledged the difficulties he’s going to face adapting the book, which is a compilation of interviews of people who went through and survived the Zombie War- i.e., no main character, or storyline, or nothing. They could rock it like a documentary, but I think it’d come off goofy, and not nearly as hardcore as it should.
