For all of you closet MUMMY fans, this should just about blow your minds through the roof. According to a scooper over at IGN, Jet Li has been cast as the ‘new’ Mummy in the upcoming THE MUMMY 3 (aka MUMMY: CURSE OF THE DRAGON)!

Yes. Seriously. No, I’m not pulling your leg. Jet Li. MUMMY 3. Or so says new MUMMY director Rob Cohen (xXx, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) at a screening of DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY at Chapman University about a week ago. The new film is set to take place in China (peace out, Egypt), and may also be starring Michelle Yeoh (though her agent has commented that she hasn’t signed anything yet).

The third installment of the series focuses on Alex, the young boy of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, as he is now 20, and just as adventurous as his old man. Interesting direction going to China and having Li star as the Mummy- definitely didn’t see that coming! Could be just what the franchise needs, and who knows… maybe it’ll start a whole new franchise with Li (ala The Rock and THE SCORPIAN KING).

Take it all with a grain of salt though, as this is NOT Official quite yet, but more hearsay… but that doesn’t mean that it’s not true!
