A long time ago (and I’m talkin’ a long time ago, in 2001), we heard rumblings that Stephen King’s DOLAN’S CADILLAC was going to be brought to the big screen, starring Sly Stallone and Kevin Bacon. Least to say that project never got off the ground, though apparently, it’s not dead in the water either.
According to Production Weekly, King’s CADILLAC is gearing up to be made again, though without Stallone or Bacon attached. This time it looks like Denis Hopper is up for the role as mob-boss James Dolan, the one bad mofo that you don’t want to run into in the desert. Based on King’s short story, DOLAN’S CADILLAC is a dark and riveting revenge tale about Las Vegas middle school science teacher Tom Robinson whose beloved wife Francey witnesses an execution in the desert and is then targeted for death by the mobster who committed it, notorious Vegas crimelord Jimmy Dolan. Dolan’s vast wealth stems from his control of The Mandarin casino. Dolan succeeds in having Francey killed before she can testify against him. Faced with resistance from law enforcement, Tom sets out to avenge his wife’s death on his own.
Revenge + King x Hopper as a Mob Boss = Good Times! Sounds like a blast to me! Las Vegas revenge flicks starring Denis Hopper only come once a lifetime, so let’s hope that this adaptation gets off the ground and brought to the big screen. Hopper hasn’t official signed on as of yet, but he’s in serious negotiations to star, and really… it sounds like the perfect vehicle for him.
