In what seems like a no brainer, The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that Clive “Master of all things Horror” Barker is teaming up with Walden Media to write and produce an “adult thriller” based around the haunted ghost of Edgar Allan Poe. Intrigued yet? Read on!
“I think we might have a chance with this project to bring the character of Poe alive for a new audience and weave his shadowy existence into the dark enchantments of his stories so that for our protagonist, and for our audience, it will be difficult to be sure where one finishes and the other takes flight.”
Yep, that’s Barker’s take on this new project, which sounds f*cking awesome in all respects. The flick, which is currently untitled, is about a group of (presumably horny) teenagers who attempt to uncover what happened during the last 2 week’s of Poe’s life. During this fun little investigative adventure, they accidentally unleash a curse from his tomb, unleashing Poe’s nightmares upon them… which they desperately try to escape for the rest of the film.
Barker has written some pretty f*cked up shite in the past, and I can only imagine what he’ll have in store with this one. Homicidal ravens? Swinging pendulums? Bloody beating hearts in the basement? Yep, this project seems too good to be true, and I love the fact that ‘adult thriller’ is in the press release, which tells me that this will be aimed at an R rating, and not that pussy-whipped PG-13 kiddie crap.
Keep checking back as we hear more about Barker’s Poe Project, as I’m sure director and casting announcements are not too far away!
