The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that HBO is currently developing a one hour series based on the Vertigo comic series PREACHER, with Mark Steven Johnson (dude behind the upcoming GHOST RIDER, and the shitfest DAREDEVIL) writing the pilot.
Not familiar with the PREACHER? If you like your religion sprinkled with vigilante violence (and who doesn’t?), then this bad boy is for you! Check it: [PREACHER is about] a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God — who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven — and hold him accountable for his negligence.
Yeah, it’s f*ckin’ badass is what it is. If you liked CONSTANTINE and dig THE PUNISHER, then prepare to like this one- it’s right up your alley! And as it’s gonna be on HBO, we don’t have to worry about cutting down the violence or the language, as it will likely be made with that R rated feel HBO pulls off so well.
Howard Deutch, the same guy who directed PRETTY IN PINK, is set to direct with Johnson on board to produce. Hard to say who’ll be the best man for the role of the PREACHER, just as long as he’s hard core and strictly business. Stick around for casting updates on PREACHER as we hear it!
