The always entertaining, if not a little wacky, David Arquette and his first feature film directorial debut THE TRIPPER has had some seriously good buzz over the last month or so, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, it’s just been picked up for North American distribution rights by After Dark Films. Yes folks, the chances we’ll get to check this puppy out is getting even better by the day!
With a kick ass cast that includes Jamie King, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas, Jason Mewes, Balthazar Getty and Paul Reubens, with cameos by Arquette and his hottie wife Courtney Cox, THE TRIPPER follows a Ronald Reagan-obsessed serial killer who attacks drugged-out hippies at a rock concert. It’s also known as the greatest synopsis for a film ever!
Set to hit between 200-500 theaters during its theatrical run, THE TRIPPER is looking for a release sometime in the first half of 2007. Yeah, the ambiguity of that blows, but at least we can rest assured that in a year from now, we’ll likely have already seen the flick and better yet- it’ll be sitting alongside TREMORS in our DVD collections.
Also to note, if you’re lucky you can check it out this weekend, as it’s playing in a mere 50 theaters as a part of After Dark’s Horrorfest- so keep your eyes pealed for theaters near you, as you never know… your local cineplex could be a lot cooler than you think.
