In an interview with Christopher
Nolan, director of BATMAN BEGINS and MEMENTO, recently told the SciFi channel
that Heath Ledger is the perfect choice to play the Joker in the sequel to
BATMAN BEGINS. Nolan said: “He’s just exactly the kind of
energy I needed for the character,” Nolan (The Prestige) said in an
interview about the Australian Brokeback Mountain star. “Everything about
the risks that that performer is willing to take are the things I need for
somebody to take on that iconic figure. It’s going to be a huge challenge for us
to create it, and he’s exactly the guy you want to be in the trenches with.”
Ever since it was announced that Ledger was given the part of Batman’s
arch nemesis, there have been grumbles across blogs everywhere that he wouldn’t
be able to do it. Personally I would have loved to see the part played by Michael
Keaton, and if anyone ever doubted that, they should watch BEETLEJUICE again and
