With all the ramp up to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, we’re unsurprisingly getting an onslaught of repackaged goodies concerning the old projects. Case in point is the October 10th DVD release of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2: THE GRUESOME EDITION.
Why any movie with the words chainsaw massacre in the title needs a Gruesome Edition is beyond me, but those marketing folks are always looking for an angle, so I’ll let them explain it:
Celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, the classic gore-fest follows the ongoing bloodshed at the hands of lumbering Leatherface. In this film, Leatherface’s most recent atrocity is inadvertently caught on tape by a tough-as-nails late night radio program DJ (Caroline Williams). Starring Dennis Hopper (Apocalypse Now) as a former Texas Ranger hell-bent on bringing the mad murderer to justice, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: The Gruesome Edition also features eye-popping, gore-effects by technical wizard Tom Savini (Creepshow, Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th).
In time for Halloween, the new Gruesome Edition drips with bonus materials, plunging viewers deep into Leatherface’s grotesque world of gore and horror with deleted scenes and two audio commentaries one by legendary director Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist) with David Gregory (director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth) and another by actors Bill Moseley and Caroline Williams with FX creator Tom Savini. A six-part featurette, still galleries and the original theatrical trailer round out the bonus materials.
