Wow! Talk about great news for genre fans … and Guillermo del Toro. Mexico has selected PAN’S LABYRINTH as its foreign-language submission for the 79th Annual Academy Awards. Since the flick kicks major ass, there’s even a good shot that this genre pic might take down one of those golden bad boys.
Of course it’s not outright horror, but then none of del Toro’s work fits that description. He gives us dark fantasy/horror at its visceral best, and now the world’s gonna get a chance to see evidence that artistry and vision also exist in an arena sometimes dominated by boobs and blood.
