You may have remembered a while back that an animated horror/comedy entitled IGOR was in the works, which followed the character of the hunchedbacked sidekick as he too, lives out his dreams of becoming a mad scientist. If you’re into CG-Animated horror, it sounds like a flick right up your alley. Today it was announced that Tony Leondis has been tapped as director of the flick, whose previous efforts included a couple of Disney flicks (PRINCE OF EGYPT).

The voice talent on board this bad boy is pretty sweet, with Steve Buscemi playing an ill-tempered lab-rabbit (are there any other kind?), John Cleese as the Mad Scientist and Christian Slater as Igor. Sweet! But wait, what’s this thing about exactly? Here’s the official synopsis :

A playfully irreverent comedy which brings a new twist to the classic monster genre, Igor is the story of a mad scientist’s hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of becoming a scientist in his own right and winning the coveted first place award at the annual Evil Science Fair.

With the success of MONSTER HOUSE and animated features in general, it’s no surprise that’s horror’s being tapped as well. Just last month we got word that HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA was also in the works, starring the classic monsters of Universal horror. No exact date has been announced for its release, but I’d guess IGOR will be hitting us sometime 2008.
