Nobody thought THE COVENANT had what it takes to be number one at the box office, and this weekend proved everyone wrong as THE COVENANT took… number one at the box office! Nice!
If we ignore the fact that it only made $9M, the lowest opening weekend to go number one since 2003, and that it was one of the weakest movie-going weekends all year… well, if you ignore all that then you could say THE COVENANT did pretty well. As it’s budget was most likely around $20-30M, I’d say it’s on it’s way to making it’s money back, but by no means was this number one a huge success.
As is the case with September, and especially this weekend in particular, as schools are back in session and everyone either has too much homework (like read the syllabus), or are flat broke from all that back-to-school shopping. Regardless of what the dealio was, no one went to theater… what can you do?
Me, I’m preparing for October, as I think there’s more horror movies being released in that one month than all year… and they’re the biggest horror movies out there! Yes, October is ‘summer movie season’ for us horror fans, and I couldn’t be happier. For the rest of the box office numbers, go ahead and click HERE.
