At Intrepid’s Mercy

Variety reports today that Intrepid Pictures, who holds a first-look deal with Universal and Rogue Pictures, has just picked up a script by Carolyn Townsend and Eddie Hartman entitled MERCY, and while this may be their first script, it doesn’t sound like it’ll hold anything back.

MERCY follows a college student who sets out to debunk the urban legend of the Mercy Killer — a killer who makes his victims’ deaths look like suicides — only to discover that he is all too real and has chosen her as his next victim.

Nice. Seriously, I frickin’ love this concept- I don’t know why, but I do. I also don’t know where the recent fascination with urban legends is coming from, as we told you earlier this week about another movie dealing with them, but no bother- MERCY sounds like a blast!

Of course, I’ve never heard of this Mercy Killer legend, but I have seen HEATHERS… maybe it’s about Christian Slater’s character coming back to life, this time moving to college campuses instead of high school? Maybe this is the alleged HEATHERS 2 in disguise? Hmmm. Maybe not.

No word on casting, or who the director may be, nor do we know when production’s set to start. Least to say, stick around, as I’m sure more news on MERCY will be flowing within the next few weeks!
