Hey kids, the intrepid folks over at SuicideGirls.com snagged an interview with director Dave Meyers. In case you don’t remember, he’s the music vid specialist who is taking on the much maligned (in these parts certainly) remake of THE HITCHER.
Here’s a taste of some of the tidbits contained in the chat:
DRE: Will there be a finger in the French fries?
Dave: No but we will have an improved truck scene where we go beyond the original. The finger in the French fries was minor to me. I felt with the whole Wendy’s lawsuit and all that stuff, it would play comical and unbelievable. It worked in the original but we’re trying to go a lot more real with this movie and make it something with real fear like how Jaws is with water.
DRE: Are we going to see a cameo by Rutger Hauer?
Dave: We asked Rutger to do a cameo. But he said, and I agreed with him, that unless he was playing the Hitch, it wouldn’t be a good move for him. I would have loved to have him in here, but he respectfully declined and wished us good luck.
Well no good news there, especially if they think they can improve the truck scene. Basically every part of the interview that deals with THE HITCHER is a bit of a slap in the face to fans of the original. But hey, that’s just my opinion. Go read the whole thing yourself and then spit bullets on what you think.
