JOAN OF ARCADIA creator Barbara Hall and producer Joe Roth are looking to get their devil on after spending due time treading the God path. CBS has greenlit a pilot for the duo’s new series concept that is all about:
…exorcists and others who investigate supernatural phenomena.
OK, so the details are admittedly a bit thin right now, so let’s focus on an awesome section of series consultant Bob Larson’s bio from his website:
Bob draws upon his more than 20 years of experience investigating the occult to reveal how evil influences people’s lives. Unlike the Hollywood version of the occult, Bob’s conferences feature the supernatural center stage without smoke and mirrors! He teaches his audiences about the many ways that demons attack human beings. Then he calls these evil spirits forth to face God’s judgment. When that happens, it’s like being in the midst of an invisible war with spiritual grenades exploding everywhere in the audience. “Satan traffics in human suffering,” Bob explains, “and we take people to the ‘point of the pain’ to discover where their souls have been scarred, allowing demons to torment them. Often, exorcism is part of the healing process that follows.”
Spiritual f*cking grenades? Awesome. I hope that makes it onto the show. No smoke and mirrors, of course, because that would be too Hollywood. But spiritual grenades bring a deep and subtle understanding of the complexities of religion and faith in today’s often fractured society – and then blows them the f*ck up! Let’s get it on!
