Fangoria had a chance to chew the fat with Johnathon Schaech today, in which he revealed a bit about a few upcoming Stephen King adaptations that he’s been working on. Not only is this dude an actor (catch him in THE FORSAKEN), but he’s a writer too! How cool is that?
But onto what the dude had to say about his adaptation of King and Peter Straub’s BLACK HOUSE, which is the sequel to THE TALISMAN, and a distant relative to THE DARK TOWER series. So is HOUSE going to happen before TALISMAN gets off the ground, or do they need to get off their asses and make THE TALISMAN already, before HOUSE can even be seen? Schaech has the answers….“It’s interesting, because we don’t know what’s going to happen with THE TALISMAN [movie] right now. It’s gone through so many writers and directors, as all King fans know, and I hear all kinds of rumors. So our script had to stand on its own as well as be a sequel to THE TALISMAN.”
I’d like the idea of it standing on it’s own, if you ask me. Yeah, it’s a sequel and all, but as THE TALISMAN has Jack as a kid, BLACK HOUSE has Jack as an aging adult- might as well be completely different characters, as far as a movie adaptation is concerned. One thing’s for sure, a film version of BLACK HOUSE would be a whole helluva lot easier (and cheaper) to make than THE TALISMAN would.
Schaech also has his fingers in King’s FROM A BUICK 8, with possible director Mick Garris on board. Not sure how that would come off on film, but I’m game to check it out! And cross your fingers for BLACK HOUSE to be greenlit… we need more King at the movies!
