We got a heads up today about a little flick that I haven’t really heard too much about, but judging from the synopsis and the poster, I’d say it’s gonna be a rockin’ good time. Nothing like a good ol’ fashion revenge flick to put you in a better mood and really make your day.
Released by Magnolia Pictures, the flick’s entitled DEAD MAN’S SHOES, directed by Shane Meadows and starring Paddy Considine, who’s in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s upcoming HOT FUZZ. Interestingly enough, SHOES was actually made a few years back in the UK, so I’m guessing it’s finally seeing the light of day on North American shores. Want to know more? Here’s what it’s about:
Richard (Paddy Considine) has always protected his simple-minded little brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell). When Richard leaves the rural village where they have grown up to join the army, Anthony is taken in by Sonny (Gary Stretch), a controlling and vicious local drug dealer and his gang of lads. Anthony becomes the gang’s pet and plaything. Seven years later, Richard returns to settle the score. One by one, he hunts down each member of the gang and executes them in increasingly elaborate ways as flashbacks reveal the extent to which his brother suffered at their hands. DEAD MAN’S SHOES is a genre-defying film blending horror, supernatural elements, comedy, and social realism. Set in a Midlands village, it explores the underbelly of contemporary rural Britain in communities where crime is unchecked and drugs, intimidation, and power games are blandly accepted as the fabric of daily life.
Like I said, a good revenge flick always puts me in a better mood! SHOES hits theaters in New York on May 12th and LA on May 26th- but don’t get too bent out of shape if you don’t live anywhere these two cities, it’s hitting more and more cities throughout the summer months of June and July. So just wait and keep your eyes open, as you won’t want to miss this puppy.
Also to note, after checking out the films Official Site, it appears as though it’s hitting the DVD shelves shortly after this summer, and on Labor Day (er, the day after) at that! So if you don’t happen by it in the theaters, then watch for SHOES on DVD September 5th!
