A double whammy for ‘acclaimed’ actress Renee Zellweger today, as it looks like she’s out of one genre project… and into another! Weird that all of a sudden Zellweger is all about the horror, but not that surprising- horror’s hot these days and, well, she’ not. So what’s the story?
She was lined up to star in the remake of the Japanese horror flick THE EYE, with director Hideo Nakata () on board… but according to , she dropped out of that project, and the whole remake is in turnaround. Hm. Good! There goes one remake that’ll be a few years before it comes out. Plus, I can’t really see Zellweger in any J-horror remake, but that’s just me.
But she’s not off the horror band-wagon yet! She’s signed on to star in CASE 39 for Paramount, which tells the tale of a social worker (Zellweger) who saves a seemingly-abused 10 year old girl from her abusive parents… only to discover the little girl isn’t quite right. Like, she’s satan or a demon or something.
No director yet, but the studio is scurrying to find one- and soon. Production on CASE 39 begins shooting July 31st in Vancouver. They’re obviously trying to keep the storyline mum, but it’s hard to see this being scary or creepy at all. But it’s early. And one sentance rarely captures the scariness of any movie, so we’ll see. Oh yes, we’ll see…
