Hard Boiled Again?

I like my action like I like my horror- gritty, violent and over the top. John Woo’s original Hong Kong actioner HARD BOILED is a classic example of all of the above, and arguably one of the phattest action films ever made.

Today Twitch Film got word that international action star (and star of the original) Chow Yun Fat has plans on starring in an all new remake of HARD BOILED for American audiences. Yeah, that sound you just heard… my jaw slamming against my desk. Why Chow why? He’s said to be starring alongside an American actor, and when John Woo turned down the roll to direct the remake, Chow suggested Johnnie To (THE MISSION). And the rest is history, as they say in the business.

No word on who the other star is going to be, and who’s producing, but apparently it’s scheduled to begin production next May. Is this kind of crazy to anyone else but me? There’s no way they’re going to be able to top the original- action movies like that don’t exist anymore!
