This may just be the moment us horror geeks have been waiting for. Quentin Tarantino. Robert Rodriguez. Slasher/Zombie flick. Yes, GRINDHOUSE, the compilation of two seperately directed films wrapped into one, is gearing up to shoot within the next couple of weeks, according to Variety.
Pretty much the two coolest directors out there (SIN CITY and FROM DUSK TIL DAWN anyone?) coming together to create a double-feature feel of 70s exploitation greatness. So forget your shit-remakes and shit-sequels, here’s some original horror comin’ out of Hollywood, and I don’t think I’ll have to worry about it getting a PG-13 rating either.
Rodriguez hits up zombie fun in PLANET TERROR, while Tarantino rocks the slasher side of things with DEATH PROOF. Both mini-flicks will have a running time of 60 minutes. Nice way to mix it up guys! Not only that, but to create a more realistic 70s double feature feel, the directors are also filming fake trailers to play before the movie, as well as for the intermission between the two. So far, Tarantino has a sexploitation trailer for his fake movie COWGIRLS IN SWEDEN (nice!), and others we’ll most likely see is a blaxploitation flick, and a kung-fu movie to boot. Man, these guys really do love movies like the rest of us!
Stay tuned for everything GRINDHOUSE in the next couple of weeks, as casting should be announced soon (suggestion below). The Weinstein’s plan on releasing the flick by the end of the year- I guess 2006 really is the year of horror!
