Clark talks Dead Remake

The boys over at Bloody-Disgusting scored an interview with classic horror director Bob Clark this week, in which he talked about some projects he’s working on, as well as more that are in the pipeline.


Clark, who scared us with BLACK CHIRSTMAS and CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS back in the 70s, is looking to do the same thing to the new generation of movie goers. By remaking the same movies. Here’s a bit from the interview:

“I always said if I ever remade one of my movies, it would be “Children”. The story will be updated to a film company instead of a theater company going to this island where years before, a man named Mason Ghoul throws a huge party and then murders all of the party-goers, burying them on the island. We are going to start shooting in April or May of this year in Vancouver…”


Sounds more like a re-imagining than a balls to the wall remake, and as time has past since the last movie, that’s probably a good thing. I don’t know about this whole trend of directors remaking their own movies, it sounds just a little odd. I’m no director, but I can say I like to write- and when I’ve written something that took forever (I’m talkin’ months and months), once I’ve finished it, I don’t even want to read it. I’ve spent too much time with it, even if I did put my heart and soul into what I’ve written. The thought of re-writing a few of those long papers again makes me feel ill.


All I’m sayin’ is that it’s a little weird for me when directors want to remake their own movies, that’s all- but then again, when it comes to remakes, who better to be at the helm than the original director? Hard to bash the remake and love the original if the same people are behind both projects.
