Halo vs Hellboy 2

Just last week rumors were spreading like wildfire about HELLBOY director Guillermo del Toro being the director of the major video game adaptation of HALO, instead of BAD TASTE director Peter Jackson. And today my friends, we have an answer.


According to Empire Online, Jackson has approached del Toro to direct HALO, and the clear answer was… he’ll think about it. Because HELLBOY 2 is what he really wants to do, and HALO will have to wait for him to make it. At least for right now… but seeing as HELLBOY 2 has yet to be greenlit, HALO might be the smartest choice.

But what does del Toro think?

“Well, Halo is very much an interesting project because it’s so full of monsters. It’s a big temptation. I’m in talks with them [Universal and Bungie Films] and Peter, but it’s not true that it’s on and Hellboy’s off. Hellboy’s on. If everything goes as planned, Hellboy will go… The ideal for me would be to do Hellboy 2 and if Halo doesn’t go away, then yeah, I’d love to do both. But it may go to somebody else. We’ll see.”


I for one do not envy the position this man is in right now. On the one hand, he has the opportunity of a lifetime to direct one of the most highly anticipated movie adaptations since THE LORD OF THE RINGS- on the other hand, he has a project that he’s already in love with, and has wanted to make for the last few years. Tough, tough choice- and one I sure as hell wouldn’t want to make, that’s for damn certain.
