Ah, killer shark movies. Can’t get enough of them. Which is why the big-budget adaptation of Steve Alten’s MEG is so damn exciting! Especially as they’re looking for a July 4th 2006 release- that’s a surefire sign that this bitch is gonna be BIG!
TV Guide had a chance to talk with Alten on the movie, and what he had to say put a big fat grin on my face:
“Like in the novel, the Megalodon that will be used in the movie will be a ghostly albino, her lack of pigment reflecting her ancestors’ existence in the depths of the Mariana Trench. She’ll be pretty scarred up and gruesome, with some features that make her unique from her modern-day cousin, the Great White. Most of all, she’ll be big. Very big.”
Very cool indeed. Something else which rocks about this, Jan De Bont is on board to direct! Now, he’s made some shit in the past, but he’s also the dude behind SPEED, and if he can create that much tension and excitement again with MEG, it’s gonna be a kick ass ride!
MEG is currently being rewritten by Shane Salerno (SHAFT), and once that’s done… casting begins! Filming is set to start sometime this fall.
