Aja on Eyes

Now Playing Magazine got a chance to sit down with HIGH TENSION director Alexandre Aja about his upcoming remake of Wes Craven’s THE HILLS HAVE EYES, and it turns out to be a very interesting read.

With the recent status quo of remaking anything that has been deemed a classic in the genre, my ideas of remakes are that generally there’s no need for them except for studios to make a quick buck. But hearing Aja talk about this remake (no matter how unnecessary), it actually sounds like a good idea.

“I think we keep the spirit and we keep the savage and the nasty [tone] of the original one, but we try to bring the movie into the more Straw Dogs way. More of a survival way. It’s more about the family facing the unknown in the hills… a little bit different. I hope it’s going to be very scary.”

He also goes into more detail on Wes Craven’s involvement, and the motives seem legit (well, more legit than just making money). Go ahead and click HERE to read the whole interview and as if you didn’t know already, but HIGH TENSION hits theaters June 3rd.
