Dread Central had a chance to chat it up with writer Dan Farrands about THE AMITYVILLE HORROR remake, and stumbled on some very interesting news about another movie about a malevolent Tooth Fairy.
DARKNESS FALLS (read The Arrow’s review HERE) was a rip-off of Farrands screenplay THE TOOTH FAIRY (he went to court about it, and won the rights to the script regarding the character of the evil tooth fairy). He just sold the rights to producer Steven J. Cannell (THE A-TEAM), who begins shooting THE TOOTH FAIRY for Anchor Bay this June.
Cannell’s daughter is at the helm of shooting the principal photography, and Farrands couldn’t be happier.
“All I can say is that ours came first. ‘Darkness Falls’ may have made to the theaters first, but ours came first. And so far it’s still the plan to call the movie ‘The Tooth Fairy.’ It’s gonna be a lot more fun and play a lot more like ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ meets ‘Psycho.’ It’s gonna be much more contained. Low budget and kind’ve more ’80s-style horror.”
Right on man, right on! DARKNESS FALLS was an ok watch, but it had so much potential to be better than it was- and I have a feeling THE TOOTH FAIRY is gonna live up to the challenge of bringing horror to the childhood character. THE TOOTH FAIRY begins shooting this summer.
