Hammer Films, which is finding itself bursting back from semi-obscurity after nearly a quarter century’s removal from its status as the world’s premiere horror film production company, has now clearly lost its mind. The long dormant studio has enjoyed a resurgence through the widespread availability of their films on DVD, and multiple late-night screenings of classics like DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS and THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
So finding themselves relevant and popular with the youth of today again, especially in the UK, they are now releasing a fashion line. It’ll be the hottest new thing to hit the runways since…wait a minute, did I just say a fashion line? What the misguided bunnyf*ck is that about?
Turns out they are relying on Gresham Blake, fashionista muckty muck in Britain, to bring their classic fashions to life. Says Blake: “We are planning to produce between 12 and 14 different designs inspired by the studio’s films. Some of the designs will be replicas complete with top hats and capes.”
Really? And make no mistake, that’s for the dudes. What about the ladies? “It’s all about plunging necklines, long gloves and buttons on the cuffs. We are also thinking of panel-back dresses and puffed shoulders. Our plunging necklines will probably plunge a little more than they did in the films.”
Great googly moogly, they’re serious. I mean, I’m all for plunging neck lines, but I can’t help imagining a club full of kids wearing the puffy shirt from SEINFELD. Now that’s scary.
