Moviehole reports today that actress Gong Li (MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA) has been hand-picked by director Peter Webber to star in THE LECTER VARIATION – a heart warming tale of our favorite cannibal’s childhood.
No word on what her role will be specifically, but I’d say there’s a better than average chance that there will be less of her on screen at the end of the flick than at the beginning. The obviously crucial roles of Hannibal, and his sister Mischa Lecter, have yet to be cast. Many expect Anthony Hopkins to make an appearance either as narrator or as the “old” Lecter.
The tale will follow Lecter’s childhood in Lithuania through a period in Paris to his arrival in the US. Presumably giving us insight into how he decided to get all Wolfgang Puck on his fellow humans. Should be good, gory fun!
