Looks like Keanu Reeves continues to wield significant box office muscle. CONSTANTINE, the latest entry in his whoa chronicles, opened with a better than expected 30.5 million estimated with Monday still to go on this President’s Day weekend.
Now just to keep Neo in line, Will Smith’s romantic comedy HITCH still has the top spot so far, barely, but I think we can all continue to be glad that blood, demons and Keanu Reeves are pulling people into the theaters (A WALK IN THE CLOUDS not withstanding). Interestingly, CONSTANTINE’s strong #2 opening is the fifth best non-number 1 opening of all time.
So congrats to Keanu and helmer Francis Lawrence. But mostly congrats to me, because my house is full of in-laws this weekend and I haven’t tried to use any of the demon destroying techniques that the film presents…yet.
